We have to talk about organ donation. Sign... for life!
Did You Know?
Organ donations can be made under two circumstances: upon determination of neurological death and, in certain cases, cardiocirculatory death, according to a new protocol.
Anyone can be considered as a potential organ donor, regardless of age, race, religious belief, sexual orientation or health status. All potential donors will undergo an eligibility evaluation by the care team.
The oldest organ donor in Quebec was over 88. He donated his liver. The youngest was 48 hours old. The heart was donated.
Over their lifetime, people are more susceptible to need a transplant than to become organ donors.
Outreach activities reassure people and encourage them to sign up. Outreach is essential. It breaks taboos. The more we talk about it, the better our understanding, and our decision, will be.
