Council of Physicians, Dentists and Pharmacists

The Centre de santé et de services sociaux de Gatineau (CSSS de Gatineau) Council of Physicians, Dentists and Pharmacists (CPDP) includes all Physicians, Dentists and Pharmacists who carry out their practice in the institution.

The CPDP's responsibilities are assumed by an executive committee that includes at least 12 Physicians, Dentists or Pharmacists, elected by the General Assembly; it also includes the Executive Director and the Director of Professional services.

According to the institution regulations, the CPDP is responsible to the Board of directors:

  • for controlling and assessing the quality, including the pertinence, of the medical, dental and pharmaceutical acts performed in the CSSS de Gatineau;
  • for assessing and maintaining professional standards of the physicians, dentists and pharmacists practicing in the CSSS de Gatineau;
  • for making recommendations on qualifications and competence of a physician or dentist who applies for appointment or the renewal of an appointment and on privileges and status to be granted to him;
  • for making recommendations on qualifications and competence of a pharmacist who applies for appointment and on the status to be granted to him;
  • for giving its opinion on disciplinary measures the board of directors should impose on physicians, dentists or pharmacists;
  • for making recommendations on rules governing medical and dental care and on rules governing use of medicines applicable in the CSSS de Gatineau, such rules being set by each clinical department head (LSSSS, section 192);
  • to make recommendations upon obligations that can be linked to the enjoyment of privileges granted to a Physician or Dentist by the Board of directors, in regard to practice environment requirements, in particular those aiming at:
    • a physician or dentist's participation in clinical activities in his or her's practice including on-call duties;
    • a physician or dentist participation to teaching or research activities if need arises;
    • a physician or dentist participation to professional, scientific, medical or administrative committees;
    • a physician or dentist participation to the medical activities scheduled in agreement sections 108 and 109 which regulate the inter institutional accords' validity conditions in that respect, and set a CPDP member's obligations toward such an accord.
  • to develop terms of on-call system in order to maintain full-time availability of doctors, dentists and, need arising, of pharmacists and clinical biochemists, for the institutional needs;
  • to give advice on the following questions' professional aspects:
    • the technical and scientific organization within the CSSS de Gatineau;
    • rules governing medical and dental resources utilisation as well as material resources set out in the Law, section 189, subsection 3, first paragraph and on the administrative sanctions that need to be provided for (LSSSS section 192).
  • to give recommendations regarding proper distribution on the professional aspects of medical, dental care and pharmaceutical services as well as the CSSS de Gatineau medical organization;
  • to assume any other function entrusted upon itself by the Board of Directors.
